COCKTAIL HOUR: Frozen banana pudding daiquiri

Melissa Temsook-Boeker • Angus Seafood Steaks and Spirits • August 11, 2010

My name is Melissa Temsook-Boeker, and I am a banana-holic.That's right, I confess. My wedding cake was banana cream pie. If there's banana in it, I'm there. So why don't more cocktails embrace this magical fruit? I blame imitation banana flavoring! You know what I'm talking about: You know it's supposed to taste like that long, yellow fruit on the wrapper. It's the same color. It's definitely sweet, but wait a sec: there's something not quite right about that taffy.Well, it's no different in the bar business. Banana liqueur, banana vodka, banana rum — it's just not right! I'm not saying that it shouldn't happen; I'm just saying that I don't feel it has happened yet.But this little road block is not going to keep me from incor-porating this wonderful flavor into a cocktail! (I know you we all very worried.)So let me introduce y'all to the frozen banana pudding daiquiri, inspired, of course, by that barbecue favorite that consists of delectable layers of banana pudding, real bananas and vanilla wafers. This recipe forgoes the banana-flavored liquors and goes right to the source with real banana puree (aka bananas in a blender).Frozen banana pudding daiquiri1.5 ounces vanilla vodkaSplash amarettoSplash Amarula Cream liqueur (if you can't find this, you can leave this out)3 ounces pureed banana1 cup shaved iceThrow it all in a blender until smooth and creamy. Serve in a daiquiri glass with a dollop of whipped cream and a vanilla wafer cookie.Beat the steamy weather with this frozen cocktail and show some love to the banana!Angus Seafood Steaks and Spirits, 1101 Scenic Highway, Pensacola. 432-0539, or visit www.anguspensacola.com.
