Organizers with Five Flags Tourism Group announced the change after receiving a grant from the Tourist Development Council.
There are no acts confirmed for the third day at this time, and no deposits have been placed. Five Flags Tourism Group is working with its booking agency, AEG Live to plan the lineup for the extra day, which will include national headline acts.
Organizers hope to start the day with some gospel music, move into New Orleans jazz and blues, and end the day with a pair of big-name country music headliners.
All three stages will be active on the additional day, with local bands performing on the GoPensacola.com stage throughout the day.
If you’ve already purchased tickets for the festival, you are guaranteed entry on Sunday as a free day added on. Any weekend passes purchased going forward will include Sunday admission, as well.
For those who do not wish to purchase weekend passes, free tickets for Sunday will be made available starting early in September on a first-come, first-served basis. As many as 50,000 free tickets will be distributed, including the weekend passes.
Nick Bodkins with Five Flags Tourism Group said that additional free Sunday tickets may open up as late as the Saturday of the festival weekend, depending on how many weekend passes are sold.
Bodkins was almost giddy with excitement about the extra day.
"We’ve got some great people on the TDC that realize we are an event that’s moving, and we’ve got genuine interest in the community and outside the community," he said. "This money is being made available to put more people in more hotel rooms, so we’re glad to get the help, and we’re glad to give the third day away for free."
Bodkins also noted that DeLuna Fest will give 4,000 weekend passes to Escambia County chambers of commerce to distribute to area hotels for sale as part of ticket and room packages. No packages have been announced yet, but details will be available on www.delunafest.com and www.visitpensacola.com when plans are complete.
