A new sports bar is taking a bite out of the dining scene on Pensacola's northside.Sharky's Bar and Bites, 7100 Davis Highway, won't celebrate its grand opening until Friday, but the restaurant and pub had a soft opening last week, and I'm already hearing raves about the food. While the menu includes plenty of sports-bar favorites such as burgers, wings and the like, it goes far beyond the expected. There's an extensive selection of salads, fancy entrees including grilled salmon and filet mignon. There's even a sinful selection of homemade desserts, including a fresh-baked apple pie that is large enough to share and which takes about 20 minutes to reach the table from right out of the oven. Those with really big appetites are invited to take on Sharky's Shark Attack Burger Challenge. For $29.95, you get a huge burger weighing in at 2.5 pounds of beef, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, Sharky sauce and French fries. Finish it in 30 minutes, and you get a T-shirt and a place on Sharky's wall of fame. And there's no leaving the table until you're done! The folks that own Sharky's are also the proprietors of O'Riley's Irish Pub and Mugs & Jugs, and if you're familiar with those two popular watering holes, you know they know how to have a good time. Sharky's will certainly add to the fun. Look for the black-and-white striped building with the shark out front. Inside, watch your favorite sporting events on more than 40 flat screens, or just watch the Sharky's girls, who will be decked out in referee shirts and serving customers daily from 11 a.m. to 2:30 a.m.Details: 476-1099.
