COCKTAIL HOUR: The Razzle Dazzle

Sara Crouch • Hopjacks Pizza Kitchen & Taproom • September 8, 2010

Every bartender has a go-to cocktail that they use for the unsure patron who will let it be known they don't drink often, they would prefer the taste of alcohol to remain undetected and they know they like their drinks a little bit fruity. Many bartenders may suggest a Mai Tai, Sex on the Beach or Cosmopolitan. However, I have concocted my personal tried-and-true cocktail to add to the repertoire of popular crisp and fruity mixed drinks. Allow me to introduce the Razzle Dazzle. The premise of the Razzle Dazzle focuses on muddling fresh fruit to create a delicious blend of flavors rather than relying solely on artificial ingredients. I must admit that I'm a self-professed muddler, and I tend to avoid simple syrups. Simple syrups often heavy a drink and allow water to take up unnecessary space; precious space that could be used for a more important component, such as alcohol! The Razzle Dazzle is comprised of Three Olives cherry vodka, Dekuyper's watermelon pucker, fresh citrus, sugar, Red Bull and Sprite. If a cherry bomb and a lemon drop martini were to mate, their offspring would be the Razzle Dazzle.

Place rocks glass containing muddled fruit and sugar mixture over the mouth of the shaker, and shake firmly, making sure the ingredients are fully melded. Strain into rocks glass, add splash of Red Bull and Sprite. Garnish with a cherry on the rim and enjoy! The Razzle Dazzle is sure to live up to its name whether served as a shot, mixed drink or martini.
