DeLuna Fest continues to quietly add acts to the bill for the Oct. 13-16 Pensacola Beach music festival, including a pair of chart-topping acts.

Today, organizers of the Pensacola Beach music festival confirmed the addition of indie-pop favorites The Shins to the festival bill. Rocketing to fame after Natalie Portman’s character in the movie “Garden State” plugged the band and its song “New Slang,” the band’s next album, 2007’s “Wincing the Night Away,” debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 album chart and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. After the success, frontman and creative leader James Mercer took time off for a popular side project, Broken Bells, with mega-producer Danger Mouse. The Shins plan to release their next album in January, and DeLuna Fest will be one of just a handful of dates the band will play in the lead-up to the release of the new record.

Also recently joining the bill, long-running alternative rock band Cake, which recently scored the first No. 1 album of its career with the January release of “Showroom of Compassion.” The sardonic band’s music is easily identified by its funky grooves, the distinctive vocals of frontman John McCrea and the occasional blasts of trumpet from Vince DiFiore, as exhibited on such hits as “The Distance,” “Never There,” “Sick of You” and “Short Skirt/Long Jacket,” the latter of which was used in an iPod commercial and as the theme song for the TV series “Chuck.”

New Orleans favorite Trombone Shorty will bring his gumbo of jazz, rock, funk and hip-hop to the DeLuna Fest stage. As seen in several episodes of the HBO series “Treme,” Trombone Shorty’s 2010 album “Backadown” spent nine weeks atop Billboard’s Contemporary Jazz Albums chart and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album.

And rounding out recent additions, frequent Pensacola visitors Rehab also have added DeLuna Fest as their tour itenerary. Best known for the popular hit “Bartender Song (Sittin’ at a Bar),” the Georgia Southern rock/hip-hop quintet will add some welcome crunch to the festival lineup.

Organizers say they plan to release the remainder of the lineup later this month. For tickets, hotel packages and more information, visit www.delunafest.com.
