More

After Tuesday night’s season premiere of Comedy Central’s smash series “Tosh.0,” Pensacola viewers got a special surprise. Host Daniel Tosh announced his “Tosh Tour Twenty Twelve” on the show, and a quick check of his blog on Comedy Central’s website revealed that Pensacola will be the site of his only Florida and only Gulf Coast appearance.

The irreverent comedian, who will hit the Saenger Theatre on April 9, hosts the most popular comedy series on cable television among viewers ages 18-34. The show, which is predominately based on Tosh mocking viral videos from the Internet, drew about 4.3 million viewers per episode in 2011. The related “Tosh.0” blog averages nearly 2 million unique visitors per week.

Tosh’s casual on-stage and on-screen demeanor belies his often sharp-tongued, subversive comedy, which doesn’t shy away from racial, sexual and gender issues. Tosh is particularly popular on college campuses —he’s performed on more than 700 nationwide — and with young adults.

In addition to hosting “Tosh.0,” Tosh writes for the show, which he created in 2009. He has also starred in three stand-up comedy specials on the network, and has appeared on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

Born in Germany, Tosh grew up in Titusville and graduated from the University of Central Florida.

Tosh fans were tickled at the news of the comedian’s visit.

“I’ll admit that ‘Tosh.0’ is a guilty pleasure of mine, but I don’t feel so bad saying that since my guilty pleasure doesn’t have anything to do with a Kardashian,” Bradley “Beej” Davis Jr. said. “I think he’d be pretty great to see because I’ve seen his stand-up, and he is irreverently clever, which is appealing taken at face value.”

And Whitney Fike immediately laughed when she heard the news.

“Oh my god, he’s so funny,” she said. “I think it’s great to see a comedian on his level come to Pensacola. He’s going to have a phenomenal turnout. He has such a big following.”
