Holi-don't Martini

3½ ounces brut Champagne (or dry sparkling wine)

½ ounce St. Germain Liqueur

½ ounce chambord-flavored vodka

Splash Soho Lychee Liqueur

1 ounce raspberry purée (can substitute any berry or peach purée)

Frozen blueberries (can substitute any small frozen berry)

Add chilled Champagne to a cold martini glass. In a cocktail shaker combine St. Germain, chambord flavored vodka, Soho Lychee Liqueur and raspberry purée over ice and shake vigorously. Add to Champagne by slowly pouring the mixture over the back of a spoon so that it sinks to the bottom of the glass. Garnish with frozen blueberries. Raise your glass and toast to puddles and penguins!

Am I the only person who feels like the entire month of January is like a holiday hangover? After the indulgence of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's, we're left with not a whole lot to look forward to except taxes and the most evil of Hallmark holidays: Valentine's Day.

Why, some may ask, should anyone dislike a day when you show your sweetheart how much you care? In response, I have to ask why one even needs a specific day to do something they should be doing all the time. So I can't waste a drink on that holiday. In this abysmal vortex of non-holidays, I looked in desperation to the Internet in search of new and enjoyable holidays.

There are some ridiculous observances. Some particular highlights include Humiliation Day (Jan. 3), Step in a Puddle and Splash Your Friend Day (Jan. 11), and my personal favorite, Penguin Awareness Day (Jan. 20). So there you have it — another year of celebrating is over. Now we're left to start over again with wet friends and aquatic birds. So I'm going to just call January a wash and let's just go ahead and celebrate the end of January as reason enough to be happy.
