Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam top DeLuna Fest lineup

Music fans will be treated to the sounds of Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Florence and the Machine and Dwight Yoakam on the shores of Pensacola Beach in September.

The four acts headed a list released this morning of more than 40 artists scheduled to appear at the 2012 DeLuna Fest.

For Pearl Jam, whose classic songs include "Jeremy," "Daughter" and "Last Kiss," DeLuna Fest will be one of only two shows the band will perform in 2012.

And for Foo Fighters, whose hits include "Everlong," "Learn to Fly" and "The Pretender," DeLuna Fest looks to be the final U.S. date on the band's tour behind its chart-topping, Grammy Award-winning album, "Wasting Light."

The rest of the bill includes a wide variety of music, including jazz, indie rock, blues, punk, country, DJ sounds and more. Iconic acts like Joan Jett & the Blackhearts will perform alongside buzz bands such as alt-country act Band of Horses and alt-rockers the Joy Formidable.

"I think it's a cool bill," said Gus Brandt, a Pensacola native who has served as the tour manager for Foo Fighters for more than 15 years and is booking manager for the festival. "It's interesting and there's something for everyone."

Scott Mitchell and his wife, Emily, are the festival's managing partners. He likened the process of selecting bands to trying to draft the perfect sports team.

"Once the headliners fell into place, then, for balancing's sake, it was like a draft room," Mitchell said. "It was a war room, so to speak, of my opinions, my wife's opinions, Gus' opinions, our staff's opinions. Out of the 40-something bands we're announcing, I'm sure we discussed more than 250."

Brandt couldn't be happier with the way things are coming together.

"To me, it's almost a rock and roll swindle that this is even happening," he said. "It's crazy that all of these bands are coming to Pensacola on purpose."

Still to come is a third headline act that has been signed but cannot yet be revealed because of contractual obligations. The team expects to announce about a dozen more acts when the remaining headliner is revealed.

"Don't sleep. You might miss out," Brandt said, addressing those who might drag their feet in purchasing tickets. "I dare the town to be a part of this. I think people will want to brag about being on board."
