Walking through the crowds at Hangout Music Fest feels like traveling back in time. Think tie dye and free spirits.

Bright colors, flowing fabrics and plenty of bikinis make up most of the fashion at this laid-back beach festival in Gulf Shores, Ala., but music fans seem to make the styles their own.

"I kind of feel like the hippies come out to play when Hangout comes around," said Amanda Irish, 21, of Gulf Shores, Ala.

Andi Albanese, 23, of Atlanta, Ga., said that Hangout Music Festival is much more than simply the music.

"It's not just about the music, it's about the fashion and the lifestyle," Albanese said.

Of course, bathing suits abound.

"It's a pretty chill crowd," Matt Ritter, 28, of Atlanta, Ga. "I mean you're in the sun next to the beach. This is probably one of the best festivals."

Standing out among the crowd of bathing suits were some crazy hats, painted bodies, tie dye and gypsy skirts.

"Everything goes," said Krestlyn Kissane, 26, of Tallahassee, Fla. "That's what these things are all about."

Neon was also a popular trend at Hangout, with some groups even coordinating their outfits.

"If it's not neon, it shouldn't be on," said Jenna Rush, a 24-year-old from Tampa, Fla.

Rush said that since she is a teacher and normally has to dress professionally, this is a chance for her to let go.

"Unique," "hippie" and "free spirit" were words tossed about to describe the fashions seen at the festival.
