More

DJs, drinking, drag shows and so much more make Pensacola and Pensacola Beach party hot-spots for Memorial Day weekend, with thousands flocking to the Gulf Coast last year. And this Memorial Day weekend could be bigger than ever for Pensacola, according to local businesses and hotels.

“We just see a lot of indicators that show people are more willing to take time off and spend a little money,” said Ted McCrary, general manager of Emerald City. “So we think the indicators are there for a really good Memorial Day.”

Emerald City, a gay dance bar in Downtown Pensacola, will feature DJs every night from Thursday all the way through Memorial Day, along with drag queen bingo on Friday night.

“We have it every Friday, but this one for Memorial Day is the biggest one of the year,” McCrary said. “That’s a fun, fun thing on Friday.”

Emerald City will also be putting on SPLASH Beach Fest, which will feature DJs, bars, food and more under an 11,000-square-foot tent, from Friday to Sunday.

The festival will be from noon until 7 p.m. each day at Park East on Pensacola Beach, and it will also feature the WAVE Black Light Beach Bash on Saturday from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. Admission to the festival is free, but tickets for the Black Light Beach Bash can be purchased for $40 in advance or $45 at the door.

But the beach partying doesn’t stop there. Memorial Weekend Unleashed 2012, a beach party packed with adult entertainment, will be hot and happening all weekend long at Flounder’s Chowder House and Crabs We Got ’Em. Weekend passes are $70 or $100 for VIP passes.

Capt’n Fun Beach Club will have its Sexacola Beach party, a weekend-long lesbian party complete with drag kings, queens, go-go dancers and Little Susie from the Fuel Girls. Weekend tickets can be purchased for $45 in advance.

Most hotels in the area are 80 to 90 percent booked for Memorial Day weekend, said hotel staff.

“We will book up, there’s no question about it,” said Tom Rasinen, director of sales at the Hilton on Pensacola Beach. “We’re having one of the better years since the shift in the economy, so it looks like we’re getting back on track.”
