More

Stewart Beck is on a mission to shake up the Pensacola music scene, and he has recruited a hit-list of talent to help him.

Tonight — and for the entire weekend — an all-star lineup of national and local artist will take over Live Night Club, 9121 Pensacola Blvd., for Pass the Good, an weekend of music, lights, art and charity.

For Beck, the dream began at a sold-out concert by one of the most popular DJ’s in the world.

“I went to my first electronic dance music show, and it was Bassnectar,” Beck said, speaking of the international dubstep artist. “He goes all over the world, has a huge following, and he does a lot of charity work, which made me want to do this. He inspired me.”

Beck’s inspiration led him to promoting shows throughout the area, and this weekend’s event will feature different genres of electronic dance, hip-hop, rock and indie music, Beck said. “I just want to make experiences for people.”

Beck aims to make this weekend a memorable event for everyone who attends.

“We’re bringing in some of the best state-of-the-art production and light and sound to Pensacola,” he said. “We’re also bringing in Cryo Smoke Guns, which are huge fog machine guns that we’ll be shooting at the crowd, along with confetti blasters and balloons. It’s going to be an all-out event you do not want to miss.”

Along with the sensory stimulation, Beck has given a platform to local causes.

“We have five different charities to support the community that I’ve grown up in and fell in love with,” he said.

Participating charities include Manna Food Pantries, the American Diabetes Association and the Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge.

The event’s association with one charity has personal significance for Sunday headliner James Lopez.

“I was invited to perform and I was actually pretty excited, especially with the Humane Society,” said Lopez who also goes by the stagename Big Lo. “I went through an incident where my Rottweiler was kidnapped by pit bull fighters who were going to use my dog as a bait dog.”

Big Lo performs on a day packed with local artists, including Hello Crescendo, Tribe Zion and a bittersweet performance for Mad Love, which will be saying goodbye to a founding member.

“I’m passing down the torch,” said Weston Wilkerson, who will now be the full-time DJ for Big Lo while serving as DJ for Unnatural Soundz, a local group known for having a good time as well as stirring up controversy.

If you aren’t familiar with the group’s live shows, founding member Chuck T. gives this advice on what to expect from an Unnatural Soundz performance.

“I’d say one of three (things), if not all, will happen,” said the artist, who also goes by the stage name Black Jack. “One, you will laugh. Two, you will cry. Or three, you will walk out with an attitude. Either way, we, as the band, we can’t lose. But I would definitely say that if you have the smallest amount of twist in your humor, you might have some fun. You just might have a blast.”

Doors open at 5 p.m. today. For ticket information and details, visit www.facebook.com/#!/events/400518829998633.
