Fall Fest by Melissa Temsook-Boeker at World of Beer and Blend Lounge. / Tony Giberson/tgiberson@pnj.com
Fall is my favorite time of year: football, college football, baked goods, light sweaters, no more enormous air conditioning bills and did I mention football? Even though a lot of fall in Florida is still beach weather, having grown up in Baltimore, I am reminded of a slightly cooler October and all of the smells and tastes that go along with it; freshly fallen leaves, a hint of smoke from the fire place, just-baked pies and enough Halloween candy to last for the rest of the year.
So this month, I am giving you a cocktail that encompasses all these flavors, and it just wouldn’t be football season if I didn’t throw some beer into the mix. The Bacardi OakHeart gives it a hint of vanilla and a slight woody character that is reminiscent of the smell of giant piles of newly-raked leaves after jumping into them. The Woodchuck Pumpkin and Goldschlager add the flavor of nutmeg and cinnamon; together with the Southern Tier Crème Brule, you get the taste of apple and pumpkin pies. All of these components come together in a convenient beer shot so you can enjoy all the flavors and still throw a couple back before you close out the month at your next Halloween party.
