A new addition to this year’s Mardi Gras calendar is adding a splash of color to the good times.
The Jubilee By the Bay Run, Walk and Drag with Color is set for Saturday at the Community Maritime Park. This fun-run, which is just shy of a 5K, is Pensacola’s first take on a so-called color run, where participants start out the run in white and end it covered in multiple colors. In this case, representatives of local radio stations Cat Country 98.7 FM, TK101 and 107.3 FM Hit Music Now will pelt participants with Mardi Gras colors – gold, green and purple – at various stages of the run, which will start and end at the park.
Registration is now open, and organizers are encouraging potential participants to register before Tuesday to guarantee the proper supply of swag. Each registrant will receive a custom T-shirt, headband, number, wristband and sunglasses, and those who register by Tuesday are guaranteed their swag.
Organizers stress that this event is NOT a “race,” and participants can go at their own speeds. Groups and crazy costumes, including drag, are encouraged.
